01What it does

What Kennebunkport Heritage Housing Trust does

Mission

To provide and maintain affordable housing in Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, and Arundel.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. In a joint project with KHHT2, KHHT helped acquire a donation of land to KHHT2 from the town of Kennebunkport, Maine. The organizations are building 6 affordable housing units on this approximately 5-acre parcel with sale of the units to qualified buyers targeted for 2nd quarter 2026. KHHT 2 manages the project finances. KHHT's executive director serves in the developer role: overseeing the builder, obtaining permits and approvals from the town, obtaining state grants to assist buyers, seeking and qualifying potential buyers, and other tasks.

  2. KHHT is responding to a request made in 2025 from the South Church Housing Corporation (SCHC), a local 501c3, to take over the ownership and management of an 8-unit, low-income apartment building in Kennebunkport. The current board of SCHC plans to disolve their organization in 2026. KHHT and SCHC are working together to complete the required legal steps for the transfer of assets.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 5 funders, grant income rose $1k → $505k.

2 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 92% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of KENNEBUNKPORT HERITAGE HOUSING TRUST’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

KENNEBUNKPORT HERITAGE HOUSING TRUST leans on a few funders — its largest provides 86% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund KENNEBUNKPORT HERITAGE HOUSING TRUST.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

0% of KENNEBUNKPORT HERITAGE HOUSING TRUST's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 55% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

92% of KENNEBUNKPORT HERITAGE HOUSING TRUST's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $47k that is directly attributable, 55% of it comes from funders outside Maine, across 5 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $532k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
