Programs

  1. NURSING JOURNALS -In 2004, JKF created the Nurse's Journal in response to the growing awareness of the challenges in the nursing profession that can lead to stress and burnout. These journals have been distributed to over 20,000 nurses from around the country. The Journal contains exercises that help nurses reflect on, and write about, work-related stress and personal issues that can affect their lives. It also includes before- and after- stress evaluation charts that enable nurses to assess their stress levels and note any changes after completing the journal exercises. This can help raise awareness of stress symptoms so they can be addressed in a timely manner. There are additional journal pages for free writing where nurses can write about whatever is on their minds. In 2011-12, JKF partnered with Medstar Georgetown University Hospital to revise and revamp the Nurse's Journal. The new Nurse's Journal continues to serve as a tool for the hard-working nurses who do so much for all of us and, who sometimes perhaps forget to take care of themselves. In 2012, 4,212 Nurse's Journals were shipped to nurses across the country benefiting each nurse who has received one. In 2013…

  2. PUBLIC AWARENESS - PUBLIC AWARENESS INCLUDES EXPENSES RELATED TO TRAVEL FOR EVENTS. SORREL KING, PRESIDENT AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE JOSIE KING FOUNDATION TRAVELS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO RAISE AWARENESS AROUND PATIENT safety. Sorrel King has become a nationally renowned patient safety advocate. As a public speaker, she travels the country spreading her message to hospitals, doctors, nurses, CEOS, board members, medical/nursing students and more in hopes that Josie's story will inspire change thus creating a better, safer healthcare industry for us all. Sorrel has spoken to hundreds of organizations reaching thousands of healthcare professionals. Also, a portion of the Foundation Coordinator's pay is also allocated to the Public Awareness category. The Coordinator is in charge of planning all aspects of these raising awareness speaking events. All communications from the Foundation to further promote a culture of safety are generated by the Foundation Coordinator.

  3. Care journal - the care journal is a tool to help patients and their loved ones record the details of their medical care. Hospitalization can be an overwhelming experience in addition to the stress of being faced with health challenges, there is also the added stress of having to keep track of new and important information. The 30-day care journal was designed to help patients manage this information. Then in 2012, jkf created the care journal mini, after noting that patients with shorter stays had different needs. The mini covers seven 7 days of hospitalization and is physically smaller and more portable. Both care journals can be sponsored by a hospital and personalized with a black label that can be applied to the back cover. When the hospital hands the patient or the patient's loved one a care journal upon admission it sends a positive message - here is a gift from us to you. We encourage you to keep track of information and to ask questions and most of all we invite you to partner with us in your care.. Our goal is for hospitals to partner with us in the care journal campaign by making a donation to the foundation. In return, we will provide journals for the hospitals to…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2021: the base held at 2 funders, grant income fell $5k → $2k.

1 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 19% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of JOSIE KING FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

JOSIE KING FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 74% of grant income and the top three 97%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund JOSIE KING FOUNDATION INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
