Programs
On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.
With the sale of the real and personal property of the shelter operated by the Humane Society of Southern Illinois, SPCa, Inc. in February, 2025. the society shifted its focus from sheltering unwanted pet animals, both from the surplus births of puppies and kittens and surrender of owned animals due to economic problems, to a plan to prevent these problems. Going forward the Society is increasing the number of low-cost neutering operations provided to the community and providing goods and services to keep owned animals in their homes. The first response during our transition period was to increase the number of low-cost neutering operations provided and by providing pet food to food pantries, flea prevention, and other commodities to the pet owners, who could no longer afford to keep their pets. The new programs began during the transition period in this fiscal year and have continued and expanded the current fiscal year.

In early November, 2024, the Humane Society of Southern Illinois, SPCA, Inc. ceased operating an animal shelter and in February, 2025, sold the real estate and personal property to the County of Jackson, Illinois to use for the same purpose. The low-cost neutering program has continued and the number of surgeries has increased. New programs, such as providing food and fleasprevention to food pantries for distribution to the needing public began at the end of the fiscal year and more ways to attain these goals began in the new fiscal year.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $231k to $1.2M (+402%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 9% · 2024 0% · 2025 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

47% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. “Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration.
