What Heart Shot Ministry Inc does
Mission
We share Jesus Christ through the fundamentals of archery and serve widows in our communities. We teach about Jesus through archery inside our ranges, and ask our patrons to join us in being like Jesus outside of our ranges through service.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Heart Shot Base Camp is a 31 Acre property, which includes a camp lodge turned into residence, where the Bendickson Family resides to maintain the property, which hosts groups, events, and an outdoor archery range during the summer months.
$15,766 spent$837 earned by the program38% of program spendingHeart Shot travels extensively with our mobile range/program, especially during the summer months, to Christian College Campuses, Christian Camps, churches, etc. During the year we travel to several day/evening events. Our travel expenses include fuel, meals, lodging, and typical travel expenses.
$13,976 spent$7,861 earned by the program34% of program spendingHeart Shot volunteers began and coach two school archery teams. One is with our local public school, and one is a homeschool team. We average around 100 team members each season. These are expenses accrued during the competitive season, including equipment, travel, apparel, etc.
$7,381 spent$3,079 earned by the program18% of program spendingThe remaining categories of program expenses consist of ongoing operations at our two indoor archery ranges, and our outdoor property. Expenses include maintenance, supplies, equipment, consumables, snack/drink sales, interest on property, insurance, etc. These facilities serve on average 50-80 patrons per week throughout the year through 5 public sessions in our indoor ranges that are free of charge. We use these facilities for private events that help offset our operations expenses, while the remaining deficit is made up with general private donations.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $571k to $478k (−16%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
67% of HEART SHOT MINISTRY INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (39% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $12k → $79.
3 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 52% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of HEART SHOT MINISTRY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
HEART SHOT MINISTRY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 40% of grant income and the top three 86%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
64% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HEART SHOT MINISTRY INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2020 48% · 2021 69% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
52% of HEART SHOT MINISTRY INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $49k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Iowa, across 3 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $54k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
