01What it does

What Finishing Touch Ministries does

Mission

We demonstrate the love of Christ in a tangible way, by providing a completed home - furnishings, bedding, decor and kitchen items - for the formerly homeless or those in transitional group homes.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. During the period of this return, 30 projects were completed (including 4 transitional group homes) impacting 62 people. Individuals and families were formerly homeless and through assistance with local agencies, missionaries and churches secured housing. However, they had no furnishings. Finishing Touch completely furnished and equipped these homes. Transitional group homes serve individuals recovering from substance abuse, victims of human trafficking, and those aging out of foster care. Again, we fully equipped these homes in partnership with each organization. Our largest category of expense is professional movers. We also utilize a 5,000 sq ft warehouse for storing donations of furniture and decor which are ultimately gifted to our clients.

  2. With over 70 volunteers and a strategic plan to develop a replicable model for other cities, Finishing Touch embarked on a technology project in 2024 to facilitate in-kind donations, interface with referring agencies, client project management and volunteer activities, all critical to our continued growth and ability to continue to serve our community. The design phase of the project is expected to conclude at year end 2025.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 4 funders, grant income fell $29k → $11k.

5 of 10 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 44% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FINISHING TOUCH MINISTRIES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FINISHING TOUCH MINISTRIES has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 31% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

56% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FINISHING TOUCH MINISTRIES.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 66% · 2021 100% · 2022 98% · 2023 48% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $72k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
