01What it does

What Edmonds Driftwood Players Inc does

Mission

Edmonds driftwood players (edp) is a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit community theatre that serves the community by providing quality live theatre productions and longstanding outreach, education, scholarship, and volunteer programs. By creating a vibrant, accessible community experience, edp has enhanced the culture and quality-of-life in western washington since 1958. Edp is one of the state's oldest continuously operating community theatres and an active member of washington's first certified creative district in edmonds. Edp has a small staff, a board of directors, and a year-round community volunteer program that is open to anyone aged twelve and above. Volunteers donated almost 15,000 hours of their time in support of edp's productions and programs this season. At edp, we take pride in opening our doors to those who are curious or have always wanted to be involved with theatre but never had the chance.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Live theatre productions: : for our 66th season, edp produced four critically acclaimed mainstage productions attended by almost 13,000 ticketholders. Edp's 14th annual festival of shorts, a community favorite, offered eight playwrights from around the world an opportunity to see their unpublished works performed on stage in a festival of short plays. Our new works program featured seven free staged readings of works in progress by local playwrights with talkbacks to allow for audience feedback and discussion. We strive to increase accessibility to our theatre space, with technology, interpreted performances and reduced price and no cost tickets for our patrons.

  2. Education, scholarship, and outreach: education is a life-long pursuit, and edp increases opportunities to see theatre, build theatre skills, and use live theatre to educate the community. Edp's education program connected sixty-three students ages 6 18 with instructors and material that taught skills and built confidence to pursue opportunities inside and outside of the theatre. Tuition assistance in the form of scholarships increased access to the program. Edp also supported theatre education in king and snohomish counties by loaning resources to enhance school productions and awarding long-standing scholarships of $1,000 each to three students pursuing higher education in theatre arts and theatre technology. Also, edp donated 117 ticket passes to schools, arts and culture, and other nonprofits in king and snohomish counties to support their fundraising efforts. Edp's outreach program, take a kid to the theatre, invited youth and their families experiencing housing insecurity in snohomish county to performances at no cost. Our outreach efforts increase opportunities to participate in theatre arts and the community.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $14k → $31k.

5 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 44% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of EDMONDS DRIFTWOOD PLAYERS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

EDMONDS DRIFTWOOD PLAYERS INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 33% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

90% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund EDMONDS DRIFTWOOD PLAYERS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. 50% of EDMONDS DRIFTWOOD PLAYERS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 45% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $114k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
