01What it does

What Color Country Animal Welfare does

Mission

Color Country Animal Welfare (ccaw) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless dogs and cats in the wayne county region through rescue and adoption, community assistance, and the promotion of humane animal care. Ccaw is the only organization in the region providing comprehensive animal services, filling a critical gap for both animals and the community. The facility west of torrey serves as both an animal shelter and a community resource center, providing care for animals and essential support services to the public.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Ccaw operates a no-kill shelter providing intake, medical care, enrichment, and placement for dogs and cats. In 2025, the organization completed 116 adoptions and transferred 29 animals to rescue partners to ensure appropriate outcomes. Ccaw assists with lost-pet recovery and reunification, successfully reuniting 23 animals with their families in 2025. Our pet food pantry is used to prevent pet surrender due to financial hardship, ccaw distributed 3,580 free pet food bags to 594 families in 2025. Ccaw facilitated 326 spay/neuter surgeries in 2025, including 252 for community animals, reducing overpopulation and improving animal health. Through its facility and outreach, ccaw provides education, referrals, and support for responsible pet ownership and humane animal management. Boarding of cats and dogs was offered to local residents and tourists to give them a safe place to stay while their owners were away.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 4 funders, grant income rose $14k → $27k.

5 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 28% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of COLOR COUNTRY ANIMAL WELFARE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

COLOR COUNTRY ANIMAL WELFARE has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 22% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

65% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund COLOR COUNTRY ANIMAL WELFARE.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $39k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
