What Brianna Marie Foundation Inc does
Mission
Raise funds for fetal surgeries and bring awareness to the field of fetal medicine.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital- The Brianna Marie Foundation is proud to partner with Dr. Braxton Forde from Cincinnati Children's Hospital to advance research of synthetic amniotic fluid. When a fetus's kidneys fail, the disorder halts fetal urine production, depriving the lungs of vital amniotic fluid and often leading to fatal respiratory complications at birth. While traditional amnioinfusions using standard IV fluids can improve outcomes, they pose high risks and may even contribute to inflammation. In response, Dr. Forde and his team developed Amnio-well, a synthetic amniotic fluid designed to mimic the natural environment of the womb. Early research has shown it significantly reduces inflammation and promotes healthier lung development. With support from the Brianna Marie Foundation, the team is now conducting advanced studies in pregnant sheep to compare Amnio-well to standard treatments, paving the way for safer, more effective fetal therapies. This work may also benefit other delicate fetal surgeries that rely on amnioinfusions, potentially reducing complications across the board.

It will allow them to conduct an animal experiment to validate the technique developed in their previous study and address the technical challenges they encountered. This support will also enable them to evaluate a medical device currently used in fetal therapy for a specific condition, expanding its potential applications. Additionally, the funding will help them continue refining an ideal shunting device for managing fetal thoracic fluid collections, including pleural and pericardial effusions, as well as type I CPAM. These contributions will significantly propel our mission to improve outcomes in fetal therapy.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $77k to $48k (−37%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of BRIANNA MARIE FOUNDATION INC’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (95% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 2 of the last 5 reported years ran a deficit.
Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $8k → $9k.
3 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 24% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
BRIANNA MARIE FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 70% of grant income and the top three 93%; half comes from just 1 funder.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2019 69% · 2020 91% · 2021 81% · 2022 85% · 2023 88% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $24k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
