Mission

To bring art to the people and people to the arts

Program

  1. The Blue Ridge Arts Council (BRAC) offered in excess of 30 unique art classes this year, many of which were offered at multiple times over the course of the year. These ranged from beginner to advanced classes in the areas of clay, drawing, painting, photography and mixed media. Some classes were single session workshops, while others spanned multiple days or weeks. Total enrollment in these classes exceeded 500 participants for the year. Eight artist groups met on a weekly or monthly basis throughout the year to explore specific areas of interest with fellow artists in an informal, collaborative atmosphere. At total of 134 sessions were held during the year with an average of 6 participants per session. BRAC also presented 23 art shows during six show cycles this year. These shows offer local artists of all skill levels the opportunity to display their artwork in a public forum. Artwork from an average of 80 artists is shown each show cycle. The community is invited to engage in the arts through public receptions, events and gallery hours, attracting an average of 135 visitors per month.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BLUE RIDGE ARTS COUNCIL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $51 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
