01What it does

What Bichon Rescue Brigade does

Mission

Bichon Rescue Brigade is an all-volunteer group whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and place Bichon Frise and mixed-breed dogs into responsible and caring homes. BRB rescues at-risk, last-chance & special need dogs typically in need of major medical care or behavior training at significant cost. BRB participates in animal rescue fairs and events, and works to educate our communities about the importance of spaying/neutering and its impact toward controlling canine over-population.

As stated on its FY2026 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Care and treatment by veterinarians and professional animal behaviorists for medically fragile, behavioral and other special needs dogs rescued by our organization. We rescue approximately 100-150 dogs per year, and about 90% of them require extensive medical treatment and/or training. This includes approx. 15-20 dogs in our lifetime care program who require lifelong medications, medical care and maintenance.

  3. Supplies that we provide for rescued dogs when they go to their foster and/or adoption home to ensure they have basic supplies needed for their transition -- leash/collar/harness/tag, bed, blanket, toy, food dishes, food, treats, flea treatment. Average cost of supplies per dog is $60 (not including medical care costs.) This also includes costs for dogs in our Forever Foster program, who are not adoptable due to medical or behavior. BRB provides lifelong care -- food, grooming, supplies -- at approx. $1000 per month for 20-25 dogs in the program.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $441 → $81k.

3 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BICHON RESCUE BRIGADE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $24k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
