01What it does

What Biblical History Center Inc does

Mission

Biblical history center, inc. Is an interfaith museum of daily life in antiquity committed to making history come alive through meaningful interaction of its vistors with full-scale archaeological reconstructions of discoveries from the ancient world.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Archeological garden tours are an interactive walk through an archological garden where full-scale replicas of structures relevant to daily life in biblical times bring history to life. The center has two biblical meal rooms; (1) the "jerusalem biblical meal room" is a copy of the one discovered at pompeii; (2) the "mount zion biblical meal room" is a copy of one discovered at herculaneum. Each room serves a four-course meal consisting of 15 different food items, including soup, salad, main course, dessert, and all beverages. To experience the ancient world in a personal way, the center offers hands on opportunities of making bread like the shepherds in the desert have for thousands of years. The center also has four archeological pits for kids to learn the purpose of archeology. Three pits are based on real-life archeological excavations from different periods of time and one pit is dedicated to the youngest archeologist and is filled with "dinosaur remains and fossils".

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 4 funders to 3 funders, grant income fell $218k → $27k.

5 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 83% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BIBLICAL HISTORY CENTER INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

BIBLICAL HISTORY CENTER INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 40% of grant income and the top three 78%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

83% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BIBLICAL HISTORY CENTER INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

83% of BIBLICAL HISTORY CENTER INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $86k that is directly attributable, 99% of it comes from Georgia funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $415k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
