What Belafonte Family Foundation Inc does
Mission
The belafonte family foundation's (bff), mission is to create access and opportunity for historically underserved, marginalized youth, adults and communities across racial, gender, and economic lines. The belafonte family foundation offers progressive programming andresources with a demand for diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a family having spent a lifetime serving others, the belafonte family foundation has taken a multi-generational approach to philanthropy with pillars in areas that are critical to human development and success.while the ultimate goal of global, harmonious co-existence should be pursued, a massive, imbalanced playing field exists where education, opportunity, health and well being are seemingly inaccessible to a massive swath of our fellow humans. Bff looks to do its utmost to help level that field, create access and offer pathways forward to a better life.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Tic talk space is a virtual safe space for tweens and teens exposed to bullying, abuse or other facilitators of depression, fear, and other mental health issues. The program includes weekly meetings with peer mentors in a gaming forum, mentors that are supported and trained by psychologists. Here the young people feel safe to talk about their week and subsequently their experiences and it becomes a focal point to hold on in their lives where many feel utterly alone, inferior, and some battle with suicidal thoughts. Many young people feel they cannot talk to their parents about their feelings of depression.continued on schedule o.sometimes parents are the catalysts of their fear and sometimes adults provoke an intimidation factor which is why this forum is run by peers who have had similar experiences. A psychologist is on call during meetings, and will periodically join the on-line forum. Additionally, the space has expanded to university students suffering from self harming thought and attempts. We support them, their families, and help financially those in need during holidays and hard times.

Finding a baseline of stability is a critical piece of a young person's healthy development. Delivered through a martial arts-based curriculum, the initiative was created as an alternative path to a positive lifestyle for young people who have a great need to be part of a group, and often choose the wrong group simply because of this very real need for support from peers and elders, even if that choice puts them on a wrong path. --continued on schedule o.when practiced with commitment and consistency, the benefits of a martial arts lifestyle teaches commitment to self-discovery, acceptance, control, and respect for an enlightening way of life for those who live it. Bright road is a way to reach these young people before, during, and after they possibly engage in potentially negative life-altering behavior.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2022, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2022, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

Who funds it, year by year
2021 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income rose $1k → $5k.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 98% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of BELAFONTE FAMILY FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BELAFONTE FAMILY FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 98% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
98% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BELAFONTE FAMILY FOUNDATION INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
98% of BELAFONTE FAMILY FOUNDATION INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $7k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside New York, across 1 state.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $400k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
