01What it does

What Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community does

Mission

The Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community seeks to protect the residents of southwestern pennsylvania, with emphasis on those in beaver county, by informing them about the health, safety, environmental and economic impacts of fracking infrastructure, including the petrochemical buildout; and by supporting sustainable alternatives to carbon-based energy sources and economic development strategies in beaver county.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. To monitor air quality in beaver county through various methods, including continuous air monitoring, mobile units, community-based projects and episodic testing. We empower residents to report pollution events from nearby industrial activity and use community-driven data to advocate for cleaner, safer air for all. Clean up the ohio river, working together to protect this vital water source. In addition to addressing pollution, we advocate for strong protections that prevent polluters from threatening our water supply, while providing direct support to improve access to clean drinking water for community members.

3 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 93% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BEAVER COUNTY MARCELLUS AWARENESS COMMUNITY.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $925k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
