01What it does

What American Academy of Pediatrics Ri does

Mission

To provide educational services and quality improvement initiatives to improve pediatric health in rhode island.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Aap/cdc project firstline: project firstline is a collaboration between the cdc and a diverse group of national organizations, academic health centers, and public health partners. The goal of project firstline is to educate all 6 million us health care workers with the foundational understanding of infection prevention and control (ipc) to protect the nation from infectious disease threats, such as covid-19.

  2. Aap social media grant: through a cooperative agreement with the centers for disease control and prevention, the aap is implementing a project to ensure high confidence in covid-19 vaccine among pediatricians, non-clinical pediatric support staff, their patients, their patients' families, state-level school health services and other partners. Up to 10,000 will be provided to chapters to fund social media-related work that promotes covid-19 vaccination. Launch an online vaccine confidence campaign. What this looks like can vary based on needs identified by each chapter, with a shared goal of customizing and disseminating locally relevant messages that encourage parents to vaccinate their eligible children against covid-19. Run paid social media ads targeting populations of parents most likely to be hesitant to vaccinate their eligible children, as well as other social media campaign tactics. Implement other activities that expand internal capacity to engage in social media communications related to this project.

  3. Aap mental health grant: grant funds of up to 10,000 will be awarded to aap chapters to support advocacy activities that advance access to mental health services in states and help develop partnerships to improve access to mental health services for children and youth.

  4. Aap catch grant is to support members in a project that is led by a pediatrician or pediatric resident. It focuses on building strong community partnerships that serves those who are in underserved health disparities. Provides access to services that lead to optimal child health and well being. Has measurable outcomes and plans for sustainability.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS RI’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS RI leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

55% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS RI.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $57 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
