What Wenatchee Valley Tread does
Mission
We collaborate with diverse partners to drive sustainable outdoor recreation initiatives in north central washington. Tread is committed to protecting and sustaining north central washington's outdoor spaces so future generations can experience the same sense of adventure, connection, and discovery that we enjoy today. Through collaboration with land managers, user groups, and community partners, we work to preserve natural landscapes, remove barriers to access, and create sustainable recreation opportunities. By fostering strategic partnerships and long-term funding solutions, we ensure that the region's trails, waterways, and wild places thrive for generations to come.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
In 2024 tread has been involved with and has managed a variety of program services related to our mission. We have been involved in grant management, where we faciliatate various projects and rco grants in the region with our partners with a goal of increasing opportunities for access to parks, open spaces, and outdoor recreation in ncw. Tread has been working on some large long-term projects in 2024, including the chelan douglas transportation council pathways master plan, upper wenacthee valley sustainable trails projects, and a comprehensive douglas county outdoor recreation plan. In 2024 tread also started a new partnership with goathead warriors to contain the spread of goatheads in the region, a new trail school to train volunteers, and hosted the washington state trails conference, which was such a success it will now be hosted by tread in wenatchee every 2 years.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $238k to $484k (+104%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 49% · 2022 2% · 2023 9% · 2024 65%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
100% of WENATCHEE VALLEY TREAD’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (18% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $6k → $129k.
3 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 47% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of WENATCHEE VALLEY TREAD’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
WENATCHEE VALLEY TREAD leans on a few funders — its largest provides 43% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WENATCHEE VALLEY TREAD.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 60% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
96% of WENATCHEE VALLEY TREAD's grant income comes from Washington funders.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $162k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
