01What it does

What Washington Mens Gymnastics Foundation does

Mission

To foster and promote men's collegiate gymnastics by organizing fundraising for the collegiate team. Funds are generated to provide coaching, rent a practice facility, travel to competitions, purchase uniforms and equipment for the team to train.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Coaching payroll is one of our largest expenses. In the past year we had one coach and one coaching consultant. These services are vital to having a competitive team that competes against other NCAA and GymAct teams.

    $99,500 spent
    46% of program spending
  2. Travel to away meets. This covers all travel expenses for the athletes as they travel to meets away from Seattle.

    $49,609 spent
    23% of program spending
  3. Scholarships: We provided financial assistance to students on the team to cover tuition expenses for credits they earned in college.

    $39,056 spent
    18% of program spending
  4. Gym Rental, so the athletes have a place to train.

    $17,500 spent
    8% of program spending
  5. Team Equipment (includes grips, tape, wrap, uniforms, as well as any additional equipment that may need to be purchased like a pommel horse or floor springs or parallel bars).

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $5k → $9k.

5 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 83% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of WASHINGTON MENS GYMNASTICS FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

WASHINGTON MENS GYMNASTICS FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 28% of grant income and the top three 70%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

96% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WASHINGTON MENS GYMNASTICS FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

71% of WASHINGTON MENS GYMNASTICS FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 88% give in more than one year at all.

Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

83% of WASHINGTON MENS GYMNASTICS FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $100k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
