01What it does

What Veterans Rebuilding Life Corp does

Mission

Reducing veteran suicide by addressing homelessness, financial insecurity, physical and mental health, including moral injury, and meaningful engagement in service through evidence-based peer programs, direct client aid, community service projects, and veteran-driven missions supporting victims of conflict and humanitarian crisis.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

This is the organization's first filing of Form 990. In prior fiscal years, the organization filed Form 990-N and did not report program service descriptions. All program services described in Part III represent the organization's ongoing activities, which expanded significantly during fiscal year October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2025, due to increased grant funding from the Cigna Foundation and the New York State Division of Veterans' Services. Program services include veteran suicide prevention and reintegration services encompassing peer mentorship, direct financial assistance, and homelessness prevention; health and wellness programming including creative arts therapy, trauma-informed yoga therapy, and outdoor recreational therapy; veteran benefits counseling and community referral navigation; employment assistance and vocational skills training including ARC and AHA Basic Life Support certification; and veteran-driven community service projects and humanitarian missions.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Project 360 is Veterans Rebuilding Life's peer-led suicide prevention and reintegration program for veterans and military families in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The program targets the root causes of veteran suicide (homelessness, financial insecurity, physical and mental health, social isolation, moral injury, and loss of purpose) through a three-phase peer model developed and implemented by trained military veterans. Phase I addresses physical and behavioral health. Peer mentors work with veterans to address urgent health needs, including PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma, TBIs, moral injury, chronic pain, and street homelessness. Veterans are connected to evidence-based and holistic treatment options through community partners, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, family therapy, and peer-led creative arts therapy, trauma-informed yoga therapy, outdoor recreational therapy, and Reiki. Peer mentors also assist with benefits counseling, disability registration, and healthcare enrollment. Phase II addresses financial security, social supports, and long-term housing stability. Using a Housing First approach, peer mentors work to stabilize housing immediately,…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income rose $375 → $10k.

3 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of VETERANS REBUILDING LIFE CORP’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

VETERANS REBUILDING LIFE CORP leans on a few funders — its largest provides 92% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund VETERANS REBUILDING LIFE CORP.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

100% of VETERANS REBUILDING LIFE CORP's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $200 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from New York funders.

NY

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $336k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
