What Vancouver Farmers Market Assoc does
Mission
To promote a healthy and vibrant community by providing access to local nourishing food and high-quality artisan products. We support over 200 small businesses by providing direct consumer access, business development support, and educating our community on the benefits of eating local and supporting small businesses.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Program
The Vancouver Farmers Market Association supports 268 small businesses by operating three markets across Vancouver providing direct access to an average of 8,000 customers a day, business development technical assistance programs and small business education grants. The Vancouver Farmers Market Association also supports the residents of our community through our food access programs educating youth and providing low cost or free food to those in need. This work is often in partnership with local educational institutions, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations dedicated to pursuing an equitable, vibrant, and healthy community.
The program described on its FY2025 Form 990.
The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $1.0M to $1.3M (+31%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 16%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
36% of Vancouver Farmers Market Assoc’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (60% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Vancouver Farmers Market Assoc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 58% · 2023 100% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration.
