What Vancouvers Downtown Association does
Mission
Incorporated in 1989, Vancouver's Downtown Association (VDA) is a designated Washington Main Street Program that engages in revitalization efforts to keep downtown vibrant. Our initiatives aim to create an appealing employment center, boost foot traffic to small business, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
The Vancouver Downtown Association (VDA) continues to build on past accomplishments, advancing meaningful progress across three core program areas. The expanded Clean & Safe Program has strengthened downtown's overall appearance and sense of security through consistent on-the-ground support and enhanced maintenance efforts. The VDA also deepened its business retention and support initiatives by providing direct grants, technical assistance, and other targeted resources that have helped local businesses remain resilient and thrive. Additionally, the organization advanced several transformative placemaking projects-including the Main Street Promise infrastructure project-which are revitalizing the downtown streetscape, improving walkability, and fostering a more vibrant and welcoming community core.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $290k to $423k (+46%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 67% · 2021 75% · 2022 64% · 2023 77% · 2024 79%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
100% of VANCOUVERS DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (62% for the typical peer).
