01What it does

What The National Museum of the American Coverlet does

Mission

The National Museum of the American Coverlet was incorporated in the commonwealth of pennsylvania on february 21, 2006 for the purpose of collection, display, preservation and stewardship of, and education regarding, primarily antique woven coverlets, their history and their makers, as further defined and outlined by the following: a)to collect and display fine and interesting examples of coverlets of all weave structures. B)to illustrate how coverlets were made and by whom. C)to illustrate coverlets in history; I.e., bring history to life by demonstrating the general historical context and the events of their day. D)to illustrate the history in coverlets; I.e., demonstrating the background behind political slogans, historically event-related pattern motifs and changing taste in decorative arts as they appear in coverlets. E)to respect and convey the humanity of the weavers and their lifestyles and challenges, both personal and professional.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. We are here to share our passion for coverlets. Although their importance in the spectrum of american material culture has been fully acknowledged, there is precious little attention given to them. The museum recognizes the need for an institution devoted to the woven coverlet and its history, art and craft. This organization is dedicated to bringing coverlets into the light and introducing the public to their colorful textural beauty. The museum seeks to enhance public interest, appreciation and understanding of coverlets by placing them in the context of events and developments of their day, by celebrating the humanity of their weavers, and by illustrating and demonstrating the methods of their production through a variety of educational methods and programs.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN COVERLET’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN COVERLET's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $69 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
