Mission

Our mission is to raise awareness and fund cutting-edge clinical research for pediatric brain cancer; focusing on cancer's biggest bully, dipg.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for cutting-edge clinical research for pediatric brain cancer, focusing on dipg/dmg. We have three strategic pillars to help fulfill this mission: advocacy/awareness, family support, and clinical research. 1. Advocacy/awareness: we are currently building out our advocacy program, but we continuously raise awareness through social media and digital marketing platforms that allow us to reach our audience to provide education and information about pediatric brain cancer and childhood cancer in general. 2. Family support: we offer an online application via our website for parents to fill out if they have a child with dipg/dmg and have to travel to receive treatment (either radiation or a clinical trial). We help bridge the financial gap for parents by offering them financial assistance for travel/rent/food associated with treatment. 3. Research: we are a visionary member of the dipg/dmg collaborative. This is a group of 25 foundations who jointly pull our allocated research dollars together in order to fund more, better and bigger research grants. This also helps reduce redundancy of researchers being funded by multiple organizations for…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 84% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE AYLA FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE AYLA FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 84% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

84% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE AYLA FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

84% of THE AYLA FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $5k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Ohio, across 1 state.

MA

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $27k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
