This society is organized and operated exclusively for educational and scientific purposes and for no other purpose. The objectives of the corporation, as expressed in the 1908 constitution are: the advancement of medical science; the cultivation of clinical research by the methods of the natural sciences; the correlation of science with the art of medical practice; the encouragement of scientific investigation by the medical practitioner; and the diffusion of a scientific spirit among its members. To this end the society publishes two biomedical journals, the journal of clinical investigation and jci insight, both peer-reviewed biomedical research journals that are available worldwide to members and non members alike, with all research content freely available without restriction of any kind. In 2025, the asci published 499 research articles in the journal of clinical investigation and 522 research articles in jci insight.
