What Texas Wolfdog Project does
Mission
Texas Wolfdog Project and Shelter Inc. is an all volunteer and donation based rescue dedicated to saving as many wolfdogs and northern breed dogs in the State of Texas as humanly possible. This will be based off of available foster homes, suitable adoptive homes and of course, financial resources for veterinary care, transportation and basic care of the residents of Texas Wolfdog Project. We support responsible ownership and public education, as well as promoting education for other rescue groups, shelters and Animal Control facilities concerning proper wolfdog identification, evaluation and care.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Program
In 2025, Texas Wolfdog Project advanced its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide shelter for displaced and at-risk wolfdogs by delivering comprehensive care to 29 animals. Each wolfdog received individualized support, including secure, species-appropriate containment, high-quality nutrition, behavioral enrichment, and ongoing health monitoring. Our program prioritizes vulnerable populations, with specialized, long-term care provided to senior and special-needs wolfdogs who are often unsuitable for rehoming. This year, we successfully intervened in three at-risk situations, rescuing wolfdogs in need of immediate placement and stabilization. Through our structured evaluation and placement process, we responsibly transitioned one animal into a thoroughly vetted, qualified home-ensuring both animal welfare and community safety. These efforts directly reduce neglect, abandonment, and improper ownership of wolfdogs. Community education remains a critical component of our impact. In 2025, we hosted three public educational events and fundraisers, increasing awareness of the unique challenges of wolfdog ownership, ethical considerations, and the importance of responsible care.…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $103k to $124k (+20%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
77% of TEXAS WOLFDOG PROJECT’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (86% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 2 of the last 8 reported years ran a deficit.
Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $6k → $27k.
2 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 6% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
TEXAS WOLFDOG PROJECT leans on a few funders — its largest provides 85% of grant income and the top three 97%; half comes from just 1 funder.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 90% · 2019 93% · 2020 88% · 2021 88% · 2022 93% · 2023 98% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $8k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
