What Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Inc does

Mission

To build and support a global network dedicated to improving lives through transformative culinary and lifestyle education.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2025, the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative (TKC) significantly advanced its mission to integrate food, nutrition, and culinary education into healthcare and community settings through research, membership growth, and national leadership. TKC published foundational research from its multisite randomized controlled trial, presented emerging findings at leading conferences, and expanded its network with 17 new Organization Members, including scholarship-supported community partners (bringing the total count to more than 70). The launch of the Ultimate Teaching Kitchen Toolkit accelerated program adoption nationwide, while enhanced member benefits and a widely attended webinar series deepened engagement across sectors. TKC elevated the role of teaching kitchens in national policy and medical education through policy education and engagement on Capitol Hill, joining the AAMC as a CFAS member, and planning for a major 2026 Convening on Best Practices in Medical Nutrition Education. The TKC also strengthened its internal capacity, governance, and storytelling, while celebrating its 10th anniversary with a successful inaugural fundraising campaign. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $50k → $563k.

1 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Teaching Kitchen Collaborative Inc has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 27% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $50k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
