01What it does

What Spay Neuter Project of Park County does

Mission

The organization was formed approximately 25 years ago to reduce animal overpopulation in rural montana, centered in park county/city of livingston. Park county is located at the northeast entrance to yellowstone national park. The area is primarily rural and economically disadvantaged, based primarily in ranching, farming and tourism industries. Many low income pet owners are unable to provide proper neutering or vaccination services for their pets, and since a large majority of pets in this area are free- roaming, many of these companion animals end up reproducing or getting sick from easily preventable diseases. The organization seeks to address these issues in three key ways. The first is through the clinic program, where low cost or free neutering is performed with paid veterinarians and many community volunteers at community facilities (such as the fairgrounds or civic center). The second is the shuttle program, whereby volunteers transport the animals to actual veterinary facili

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2024, the spay neuter project altered and vaccinated 514 animals: 417 cats through clinics and cost-share vouchers and 97 dogs through cost-share vouchers only. Six cat spay/neuter clinics were held in 2024 at the park county fairgrounds in livingston, mt, with veterinary and surgical support provided by dr. Amy lamm of vet-2-go, based out of billings. Local veterinary clinics who participated in our cost-share voucher program in 2024 by providing spay-neuter services were colmey veterinary hospital and livingston veterinary hospital, both located in park county; crazy mountain veterinary service in meagher county; and all creatures veterinary service in sweet grass county. In addition to owner-client donations to clinics and the cost-share voucher program, in 2024 the spay neuter project received a grant of 5,000 from the sands memorial foundation and raised funds through participation in the park county community foundation (pccf) annual give-a-hoot program. In 2024 the spay neuter project received 18,009 in community donations and matching pccf funds through this program. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $3k → $22k.

2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 66% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

SPAY NEUTER PROJECT OF PARK COUNTY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 66% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

66% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SPAY NEUTER PROJECT OF PARK COUNTY.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $84k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
