What Southern Eye Bank Foundation does

Mission

The Southern Eye Bank Foundation supports the greater new orleans foundation (gnof), a community foundation, and other public charities that promote and achieve the goals of gnof, which goals include the enrichment of life in the greater new orleans (continued on sch. Program

On its FY2023 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

No longer operating as an eye bank, the Southern Eye Bank Foundation now supports the greater new orleans foundation by serving as a conduit for donations dedicated to improve the community particularly to support the enhancement of vision and eyecare in southeast louisiana.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

For over sixty years, southern eye bank's mission has been to operate as an eye bank that provided eye tissue for transplant, research, and education in and outside louisiana in pursuit of spreading the gift of sight. In 2022, southern eye bank sold its eye bank and related assets and changed its name to Southern Eye Bank Foundation. The Southern Eye Bank Foundation no longer operates as an eye bank and thus no longer receives income from this tax exempt activity. The Southern Eye Bank Foundation's sole purpose now is to support the greater new orleans foundation particularly as it relates to the field of charitable eye care.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $31 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
