01What it does

What South View Middle School Parent Council does

Mission

E south view parent teacher organization (pto) is here to support the entire south view community - students, parents, and staff. We work together on everything from school events to fundraising to providing help and resources to south view educators. The proceeds from our fundraising are given to the south view community through teacher grants for classroom supplies and equipment. We also coordinate teacher appreciation events and coordinate volunteer for school events.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Teachers apply for grants from the pto to cover supplies or equipment needed for classroom enrichment that is not covered by the school. Funds are granted for purposes that benefit all students of the south view community. Examples include new equipment for gym activities, books for english classes, and frogs for the science class dissection unit. Every teacher and area has an equal opportunity to apply and benefit from the grants. This is the area that the majority of our funds are directed each year, approximately 75%. We have some grants that are recurring on an annual basis such as the frog lab, books clubs, and some that are a one time request.

  2. The pto donates funds to help improve the student classroom and common areas for student enjoyment. An example was a sizable donation to create a courtyard area for all classrooms and students to enjoy. The pto funded a portion of the funds along with the school and district. This is an area that future generations will use. This was an area of the building that was unusable before the pto led initiative. We volunteered our time to help design and fund the construction to respond to the needs of the students/teachers for more spaces to use for learning. We also funded a salary for an extra security guard when the school needed it and was unable to fund it in the budget. This accounts for an average of 10% of our annual budget.

  3. The pto organizes/funds many annual events that create a positive learning environment and foster community unity. These events include special person's day to recognize grandparents and family members that are intregal to student's learning. The spirit of south view awards which recognize students that embody the core values of the school such as kindness/inclusion. We also organize and fund springfest and teacher appreciation week. This program utilizes about 15% of our annual donations.

2 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SOUTH VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SOUTH VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL leans on a few funders — its largest provides 76% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SOUTH VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

100% of SOUTH VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $3k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
