01What it does

What Sound Support Foundation does

Mission

We fund young musicians and music educators in the area of music performance. The Sound Support Foundation raises funds by accepting donations, by hosting events such as ticketed concerts, and other events, the proceeds of which are used for scholarships and creating resource materials for students and educators.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

During the 2025 tax year, the foundation officially launched the student video-production initiative to expand its traditional music performance curriculum into digital media literacy and technical workforce development. Under the direct guidance of experienced music and film-industry professionals, participating youth musicians received hands-on, practical instruction in the technical and creative components of modern media production, including audio engineering, storyboarding, digital cinematography, and post-production editing. This new program equips students with real-world, transferrable skills to complement their musical training and prepares them for modern digital media environments. Additionally, the foundation formally established and activated its structured music performance & education scholarship program during the 2025 tax year. This newly systemized program was designed to provide equitable access to advanced music instruction, masterclass mentorship, and premier live-performance events for students based on financial need and artistic merit. In its inaugural fully funded cycle, the program successfully awarded 224,141 in direct financial assistance to 74 qualifying young musicians, with awards averaging 3,028.93 per student, thereby directly facilitating advanced educational opportunities and high- profile performance experiences worldwide.

The february 7 program brought together more than 200 young soundhouse artists for performances alongside accomplished professional musicians, including tyler glenn of neon trees, tom bones malone, and marc russo of the doobie brothers. Utah governor spencer cox also participated in the event. The program celebrated mr. Lewiss musical legacy while giving young performers the opportunity to learn from and perform with leading professionals. The foundation conducted 30 outreach sessions for junior high and high school students throughout utah. These free programs included in-school clinics, career-day presentations, educational field trips, and hands-on workshops. More than 1,000 students participated at no cost to their schools. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 33% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SOUND SUPPORT FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SOUND SUPPORT FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 33% of grant income and the top three 83%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

33% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SOUND SUPPORT FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

100% of SOUND SUPPORT FOUNDATION's grant income comes from Utah funders.

UT

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
