01What it does

What Society of St Joseph of Bethlehem does

Mission

Society of St Joseph of Bethlehem is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore and preserve st joseph's church as a sacred place of worship and a testament to the history and cultural heritage of southside bethlehem.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Perform building repairs and renovations to address code deficiencies so that certificate of occupancy (coo) may be obtained. A city building inspection performed in 2024 found the church building deficient in many areas. In order to fulfill our mission we need to obtain our coo, and thus priority has been placed on addressing code deficiency issues. In 2025, the main slate roof was repaired, roof flashing around both church towers was replaced with all new copper flashing (to eliminate water leaks causing damage to the church interior), roll ridge flashing on the west spire was repaired, flat roof over the east-side sacristy area was completely replaced, flat roof over the west-side sacristy area was repaired, new hot water heater was installed and important plumbing repairs were completed, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers were brought up to code, all exterior doors were repaired to meet code, new fireproof door was installed on boiler room, and other minor issues related to code deficiencies were addressed.

  2. Sponsor special events for the public in the church and city park. We worked with the city to develop and implement a mitigation plan that allows our organization to conduct limited events in the church with the approval of the city required for each event; this includes restricting areas of the church and grounds, as well as other mitigation terms. We sponsored three funerals for former parishioners, two baptisms, and one wedding in the church. We also sponsored a free picnic open to the public in city park

  3. Sponsor biannual masses open to the public to provide opportunity to attend services inside of the historic church. We also sponsored social luncheon events following both masses, also open to the public. These masses had about 85-100 persons in attendance.

Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SOCIETY OF ST JOSEPH OF BETHLEHEM’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of SOCIETY OF ST JOSEPH OF BETHLEHEM's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
