What Simply Slavic does

Mission

Simply Slavic's mission is to educate both the large number of local slavic descendants and the greater youngstown community at-large about slavic heritage.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Our signature event is the Simply Slavic heritage festival, which takes place yearly on the friday and saturday of father's day weekend in june in downtown youngstown, ohio. Each year approximately 6,000 people attend the event, which showcases the rich traditions of the slavic culture by celebrating the food, music, dance, and customs of the various slavic ethnicities.

  2. In 2024, we held our second annual holiday themed event called "home for the slavidays". The purpose of this event is to share and showcase the rich holiday traditions of the slavic nations such as the polish wigilia/christmas eve dinner, the pagan slovenian krampus, jaslickari polish carolers, st. Nicholas, and music from chardon polka band. About 600 people were in attendance at this event.

  3. Simply Slavic provides scholarships for second year or above undergraduates, graduate students, or doctoral candidates attending youngstown state university. We offer two scholarships per year of 1,000 each. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievements, volunteerism in the community, and their response to a 500-word essay on the prompt "how has the slavic culture influenced your life, in the past, present, and how will it into the future?" the scholarship winners are honored at our annual volunteer banquet.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $19 → $275.

1 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SIMPLY SLAVIC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Ohio out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $80 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
