01What it does

What Siegel & Shuster Society does

Mission

The Siegel & Shuster Society is committed to commemorating and celebrating the creation of Superman in Cleveland, Ohio by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

The Siegel & Shuster Society commissioned a group of statues to commemorate and celebrate the creation of superman in cleveland, ohio by jerry siegel and joe shuster. In coordination with the cuyahoga county monument commission, a site was selected in front of the cleveland convention center, now known as the siegel & shuster tribute plaza. Both small and large donations were raised to help with the construction of the statues and the impending installation in august 2025 as well as continued maintenance of the superman display at cleveland hopkins international airport. The organization also receives quarterly donations through the ohio bureau of motor vehicles which they collect from drivers that have chosen the superman license plate.

The first program described on its most recent Form 990, which lists programs largest first by expense.

2 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 99% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

Siegel & Shuster Society leans on a few funders — its largest provides 79% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Siegel & Shuster Society.

Where its funders are

99% of Siegel & Shuster Society's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $5k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Ohio funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $551k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
