01What it does

What Sheep Not Goats Inc does

Mission

Sheep Not Goats worked in Nicaragua to help the poor there, primarily by providing the opportunity to work either on our farm there or knitting baby blankets that we have trained a small group of women to knit. We also engaged in benevolent activities such as helping people with food support, feeding seniors in the community, and helping with urgent medical needs. In finalizing our cessation of operations, it was determined in conjunction with our board to invest in ways that our then-current workers could continue without us through their own enterprises, including but not limited to transfer of the farm property to existing workers as a form of cooperative arrangement, all done legally via our attorney in Nicaragua.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Provided farm jobs to about 5-6 people in the town of Malpaisillo, Nicaragua, where there are no jobs. These people support another 30-40 dependent family members in town.

    $47,819 spent
    41% of program spending
  2. Provided jobs to 5-10 women who we trained to knit baby blankets that are later sold. These are women with no other significant means of support, mostly young mothers. Expenses here include pay for the women and also other costs associated with the production and sale of the blankets.

    $13,259 spent
    11% of program spending
  3. Provided food and medical support to our workers and to others. This includes a weekly hot breakfast for local senior citizens. Most medical expense was for one former worker who contracted a severe form of encephalitis.

    $9,043 spent
    8% of program spending
  4. Donated most of the farm property to a group of the workers.

    $15,000 spent
    13% of program spending
  5. Donated a small piece of land at the front of the farm to two of the workers and built a small open-air eating establishment that they could operate to support their families. One of the workers proved to be untrustworthy and was later bought out for an additional $7500. We built the facility and all appliances and other items for creating of a restaurant.

    $30,609 spent
    26% of program spending

The 5 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ. Program spending in total: $115,730.

2 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 76% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SHEEP NOT GOATS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SHEEP NOT GOATS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 73% of grant income and the top three 98%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

76% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SHEEP NOT GOATS INC.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 83% · 2018 71% · 2019 96% · 2020 80% · 2021 81% · 2022 87% · 2023 86% — growing more concentrated.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

76% of SHEEP NOT GOATS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $7k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Florida, across 2 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $21k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
