01What it does

What Seattle Children's Hospital (Dba Kc Howard Guild) does

Mission

The kc howard guild was founded in 1995 to support seattle children's hospital (a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt hospital) by raising awareness and funds primarily for its uncompensated care program. For over twenty years, the guild has enjoyed working as a group of friends with one common goal - to help seattle children's realize its goal of ensuring that children at the hospital receive the best care regardless of their families' ability to pay. In the process, the guild members have fun, do some important community work, and learn along the way. The guild is named after katherine colwell (kc) howard, who is the granddaughter of anna herr clise, the founder of the children's orthopedic hospital (now known as seattle children's hospital). Kc grew up volunteering her time and efforts over many years, involving herself in projects at the hospital as well as serving on the board of trustees. The kc howard guild is honored to be named for her.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The kc howard guild is a member of the seattle children's guild association, a tax-exempt fundraising entity of seattle children's hospital. The hospital provides pediatric patient care, medical research, teaching of pediatric residents and other healthcare providers, as well as advocacy for children in the pacific northwest. The kc howard guild held its annual holiday auction. This event raised funds primarily benefiting the uncompensated care program of seattle children's hospital.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $250 → $17k.

5 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SEATTLE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (DBA KC HOWARD GUILD)’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SEATTLE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (DBA KC HOWARD GUILD) leans on a few funders — its largest provides 46% of grant income and the top three 93%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SEATTLE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (DBA KC HOWARD GUILD).

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 67% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of SEATTLE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (DBA KC HOWARD GUILD)'s grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $87k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
