01What it does

What Save the Graves Inc does

Mission

Save the graves is dedicated to the restoration and protection of el dorado couonty cemeteries and the preservtion of the histoy and stories contained therin. We celebrate the cemeteries and their history with projects, activities and events which contribute to our mission.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. In 2025, save the graves successfully transitioned from a local gathering into a significant regional cultural attraction, hosting nearly 1,000 attendees and drawing visitors from over 10 states. Our data indicates that 10% of guests to our annual cemetery fundraiser traveled from outside el dorado county, with a heavy draw from the greater sacramento area, directly advancing the county's tourism and economic goals. Beyond attendance, our work fueld a robust volunteer program involving hundreds of participants. By engaging younger generations in hands-on preservtaion, we have fostered a lifelong connection to local history, ensuring these hallowed grounds remain respected and maintained for years to come. The impact of our work has also triggere a powerful "replication effect," positioning our unique blend of theater, history, and restoration as a gold standard for preservation. While out-of-state visitors traveled specifically to study our model for their own communities, local civic organizations--including the d.a.r., the emblem club, and the odd fellows--have already implemented restoration programs in el dorado hills, placerville, and mosquito under our guidance. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

2 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 95% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SAVE THE GRAVES INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SAVE THE GRAVES INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

95% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SAVE THE GRAVES INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

95% of SAVE THE GRAVES INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $2k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside California, across 1 state.

TX

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $28k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
