What Reach the Children Inc does

Mission

Programs

  1. Education - rtc assists schools in several african countries, including kenya, uganda, ghana, & sierra leone. Rtc provides useful resources and scholastic materials as well as child sponsorships, to assist in raising the quality of education for children and to increase the number of children reached with educational opportunities.

  2. Water and agriculture - rtc collaborates with communities to make clean water available for daily survival, animal & agriculture purposes. Rtc adopts a teach as you go focus and connects kitchen gardening to most projects so that schools, families and whole communities can benefit from the growing of food to supplement their daily diet. Rtc drills wells and provides pumps, does water-harvesting projects at schools and community buildings, provides clean drinking water and water forsmall farm irrigation by improving springs and cementing water holes and springs. Rtc also provides seeds, fertilizer and tools for gardening and farming, teaches several methods of gardening & does larger farm projects for selling.

  3. Community empowerment - rtc helps local communities through development of centers from whence each of the focus programs can be launched, mentored and monitored as needed, for long-term effect, and any given community. These centers, if a physical building, can provide a gathering place for the community to meet, a teaching/training facility, storage areas for shipping commodities produced by the communities, distribution of incoming donations and revenue and a center for all productive community activity. The community development concept takes place even without a physical building and in some areas is just an organized group working together for something better to take place in their lives.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 2 funders, grant income fell $59k → $20k.

2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 25% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of REACH THE CHILDREN INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $69k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
