01What it does

What PTA CALIFORNIA CONGRESS OF PARENTS TEACHERS & STUDENTS INC aka Opening Doors a Belmont Redwood Shores Special Services PTA does

Mission

Opening Doors PTA's goals are to educate, advocate, and support the special needs community. We believe that parents are the strongest advocates for their children. As parents with special needs kids, we must understand our children's difficulties and the IEP(Individualized Education Program) process in order to ensure our kids receive a good education. We host free Parent Education Workshops to help educate parents, professionals and other community members. The journey for parents with special needs kids is incredibly hard, and we believe no one should travel alone. We provide support groups and online forum for parents to connect and support each other. We provide grants to teachers, therapists and the Special Education Department of the Belmont Redwood Shores District whom serve our students. We offer after-school classes and opportunities to learn social skills for students. In addition, we advocate for equal rights and inclusion of the special needs community.

As stated on its FY2021 Form 990-EZ.

Program

We collaborate with the Belmont Redwood Shores School District Special Education Department to provide mini-grants to support the work of educators in BRSSD through an application process. Grants support educator training, positive behavioral interventions and support, pay for programs and supplies used for students and educators and provide continuing education to school staff.

The first program described on its most recent Form 990-EZ.
