What Penfield Montessori Academy Inc does

Mission

Penfield montessori academy is a fully-inclusive public uw-milwaukee charter montessori school for children of all abilities. Our mission is to provide a rich and challenging environment which allows students to realize their fullest potential academically, emotionally, and socially.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

During fiscal year 2024, penfield montessori academy (pma) ceased operations following its closure at the end of june 2023. The primary focus for the fiscal year was on the orderly dissolution of the school and associated legal and financial responsibilities. All employees were formally laid off by the end of july 2023, and no new educational programming or student services took place during fy24. The organization initiated and carried out dissolution procedures, which included the sale of the school building held under a separate llc. These actions were overseen in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. An independent consolidated financial audit was completed through december 2023 to ensure proper accounting of any final transactions. The audit recognized a small number of outstanding revenues and expenses related to the prior year's operations, including final vendor payments, professional service fees, and the receipt of closing grants or reimbursements. Overall, fy24 was dedicated to responsible financial and organizational closure, and no new programming, staffing, or enrollment activities were conducted. Action would be to close at the end of the 2022-2023 school year,

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 3 funders, grant income fell $42k → $7k.

3 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $5.7M from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Friends of Penfield Children's Center Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money PENFIELD MONTESSORI ACADEMY INC raised.

From the IRS filings of PENFIELD MONTESSORI ACADEMY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

PENFIELD MONTESSORI ACADEMY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 71% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 1 funder.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

30% of PENFIELD MONTESSORI ACADEMY INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 62% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Wisconsin out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $23k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
