What Peace Rising Inc does
Mission
We identify locations around the world that are most vulnerable to broader social impacts of climate change such as migration, instability, and conflict. From there, we conduct research to understand why these vulnerabilities exist--such as expected climate impacts combined with lack of infrastructure, extractive policies, underinvestment in communities, and other factors. Then we engage with community organizations and policymakers to effect structural changes that support and protect those communities.

Program
Our largest program area is our work in the state of Ceará, Brazil. We are working together with a coalition of organizations to support the state environmental secretariat in developing Ceará's climate action and sustainability plan. Specifically, we are identifying the areas most vulnerable to climate induced land degradation and desertification, and the impact of these changes on biodiversity and social well-being (measured via the UN SDG indicators) in order to inform state planning. Through our collaboration with these partners, we are also beginning to support the development of the state's first greenhouse gas emissions inventory and net-zero climate action plan.
