01What it does

What Pas de Cheval Horse Rescue does

Mission

Protecting new mexico's racehorses from slaughter, by providing rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming services.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2024, 23 horses were in our rescue program. We had 10 new rescue horses arrive in our program, retiring from the racetrack. Their intake needs ranged from bone fractures and soft tissue injuries, to horses with acute colic issues, to horses who were sound but too slow to be competitive on the racetrack, but needed to be retrained before they could be adopted companion and pleasure horses. Pas de cheval provided platelet rich plasma treatments, joint injections, stomach ulcer treatments, x-rays, ultrasounds, colic care, wound care and routine vaccinations, deworming, farrier and dental care for each horse in our herd. Each horse was fed a specific diet, with high quality hay and supplements to fit their unique needs. We had 2 volunteers help with sunday chores. We also hosted an open house in october 2024, to share our rehabilitation and retraining techniques, and to showcase our adoptable horses. We had 9 horses get adopted from our rescue program in 2024.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2022 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income rose $54 → $77.

3 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 55% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of PAS DE CHEVAL HORSE RESCUE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

PAS DE CHEVAL HORSE RESCUE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

75% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund PAS DE CHEVAL HORSE RESCUE.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

55% of PAS DE CHEVAL HORSE RESCUE's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $27k that is directly attributable, 56% of it comes from New Mexico funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $33k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
