One Sun Health (OSH) is a non-profit corporation operating exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. OSH's purpose is to promote sustainable, locally-driven solutions to improve health and wellbeing in rural South Africa. We achieve this through community education and social entrepreneurship initiatives, which are designed and implemented with a network of local partners. One Sun Health's primary program is the Malaria Awareness Program (MAP), an education program which partners with local clinics and community health workers to lead multi-week series of malaria workshops in rural villages in northern South Africa. OSH provides internships and volunteer opportunities to students and recent college graduates in the United States, many of whom travel to South Africa to oversee the growth and evaluation of programming.

Programs
Malaria Awareness Program ("MAP") is an initiative which aims to create partnerships between health educators and community members in order to improve knowledge surrounding malaria. MAP involves an intensive community health worker training program followed by a multi-week series of education workshops, which take place at the traditional leaders home in various villages in rural South Africa. To date, MAP has trained nearly 150 health educators through 23 intensive training sessions. These educators have held over 120 community education workshops, directly educating 1,581 community members on malaria prevention strategies. This program operates with the approval of the relevant Provincial Departments of Health and in partnership with faculty at the University of Pretoria. In order to ensure MAP's success, we campaign for funds to bring US-based program coordinators on board to spend extended periods of time on the ground supporting programs. These coordinators include students and recent graduates who work to engage additional government, health, and non-profit stakeholders and perform impact evaluations.
