What Oakdale Foundation does

Mission

The mission of Oakdale Foundation is to provide funding and other resources necessary to further the mission of oakdale academy: to instill character, truth, and wisdom in our students in such a way that when they leave us at graduation, they are truly prepared for a life of service to god, country, community, and family.

Programs

  1. Oakdale Foundation, through its academy, strives to develop within its students the intellectual and personal habits and skills upon which responsible and productive lives are built, in the firm belief that such lives are the basis of a free and just society. Oakdale academy helps guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs and extracurricular activities. The liberal arts curriculum directs student achievement toward mastery of the basics, exploration of the arts and sciences, and an understanding the foundational principles of our judeo-christian and greco-roman heritage. The curriculum, by purpose and design, is a combination of the best spiritual, intellectual and cultural traditions, developed and refined over countless generations, to return our students to the great educational heritage of the west.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income fell $50k → $8k.

4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 78% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of OAKDALE FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

OAKDALE FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 82%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund OAKDALE FOUNDATION.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 90% · 2021 96% · 2022 100% · 2023 93% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

78% of OAKDALE FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $25k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Michigan funders.

MI

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $89k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
