01What it does

What Northbound & Co does

Mission

Northbound & Co is a recovery service organization based in northeast pa. We provide an array of peer based programs, services, and resources in a safe, therapeutic environment designed to reintegrate those we serve back into society.(continued schedule o)

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. In 2023, the company was chosen to serve as the regional recovery hub for the 10 counties in northeast pa. As such, we are charged with conducting a survey/assessment of the recovery services offered in our region. Those services included, but were not limited to, addiction treatment providers, medication assisted treatment centers, employment and workforce development agencies, and agencies that offered mental health services. We began the survey and it was completed in 2024, in cooperation with various governmental agencies and other institutions. As part of that survey, we were also required to identify gaps in those services (I.e. Services not provided but needed) and populations that faced barriers to accessing those services (e.g. High cost, lack of transportation, language). We assessed the information collected and measured that against other reliable agency reports to verify our findings. (continued on schedule o part iii 4b)

This includes veterans, the homeless, people suffering from addicction, and victims of abuse and trauma. Estimates show that 10% of adults in the us will have substance abuse disorder at some time in their lives. In monroe county, more than 13,000 adults will struggle with addiction, while many more have a friend, family member, or meighbor with a substance use problem. Further, 75% of individuals in drug treatment centers report a personal history of trauma and abuse. In 2021 we were blessed with the opportunity to offer peer-based trauma support programming to veterans and civilans in northampton county. (continued schedule o part iii 4a)

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of NORTHBOUND & CO’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

NORTHBOUND & CO leans on a few funders — its largest provides 61% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

39% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NORTHBOUND & CO.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $176 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
