01What it does

What New London Area Food Pantry does

Mission

Serving the residents of New London and Southeastern CT by offering a selection of groceries to those who cannot afford to meet their nutritional needs otherwise.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. In 2025 we provided groceries to 58,481 individuals with enough food for 701,772 meals. Each distribution contains enough food for a family of four for three days. This provides each person with twelve small meals. We provide food to those in need in the New London area with a choice of foods to provide a balanced diet of fresh, frozen and canned foods. This includes vegetables, bread, fruit, peanut butter, dairy products, meats and various other products that become available to us. Starting 1/1/23, our primary food supplier, Foodshare CT, started charging for some items through their Grocery Purchasing Program (GPP). These items were previously offered for free during the pandemic. The charged items changed from week to week.

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $3k → $52k.

2 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 6% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of NEW LONDON AREA FOOD PANTRY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
