What Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue does
Mission
The organization's primary purpose is exclusively for charitable purposes. The Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue's mission is to provide quality shelter and care for surrendered, unwanted, neglected, and/or abused Collies until proper permanent homes can be found; to advise and educate potential and current Collie owners about breed characteristics, care, health issues, training and behavior; to advocate responsible Collie breeding practices; and to promote spaying and neutering of all pets.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Adoption of collies to qualified permanent homes. During 2025, MWCR Adoption Team volunteers reviewed adoption applications, checked references, visited homes or did remote visits of potential adopters to meet the adopters and inspect their homes, and when all criteria were successfully met, approved the applicants to adopt from us. In 2025, MWCR adopted 44 collies to permanent homes. The collies received all necessary veterinary care, including vaccinations and spaying or neutering, if needed, before adoptions become final. MWCR provided veterinary care for any condition arising within the first thirty days after adoption and for chronic conditions existing at the time of adoption. MWCR also offered behavioral assessment and assistance for the collies. Our Transport Coordinator organized volunteers who provided transportation to foster and permanent homes. MWCR provided follow-up with adopters to ensure that the collie is adjusting to the new home and to answer questions that the adopter might have. MWCR held five free Collie Frolics in 2025, one in Shakopee, MN, one in Iola, WI, one in Menomonee Falls WI, one in Omaha, NE, and one in Madison, WI where collie owners and their…

MWCR partners with the Collie Rescue Foundation, the Collie Health Foundation, and the Pause 4 Paws organizations to promote responsible pet adoption and to promote strong working relationships among animal welfare organizations. In addition to working with the other collie rescues across the United States, MWCR also collaborates with rescues and shelters such as the Animal Humane Society, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue, HAWS, Animal Rescue League of Iowa, the Aussie Rescue of Minnesota, the Wisconsin Humane Society and other rescues and shelters in our region to ensure the best placement of animals in need. We also partner with St. Paul Animal Control, Minneapolis Animal Care and Control, MADACC, and PUPS to take in collies from impound situations. In 2016, MWCE joined the national Shelter Animals Count program to share data on animal intake and adoptions. MWCR supports the greater collie community and provides assistance to collie owners experiencing hardships. We actively work to prevent the unnecessary surrender of collies and to keep collies in…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2017 to 2018, from $525k to $635k (+21%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 4 funders, grant income rose $7k → $20k.
2 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 39% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of MINNESOTA WISCONSIN COLLIE RESCUE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
MINNESOTA WISCONSIN COLLIE RESCUE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 98%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MINNESOTA WISCONSIN COLLIE RESCUE.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 99% · 2019 100% · 2020 66% · 2021 52% · 2022 65% · 2023 55% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
MINNESOTA WISCONSIN COLLIE RESCUE draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Minnesota, across 4 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $44k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
