Programs
Mercy Medical Center is a 375 bed, not-for-profit acute care hospital serving the healthcare needs of nassau county and its surrounding area. Founded in 1913 by the nursing sisters of the congregation of the infant jesus, Mercy Medical Center has grown from a three floor wooden structure to an extensive institution occupying a 42-acre campus that houses some of the most advanced medical technologies. In 2024, the medical center had 11,016 discharges and provided care for 33,537 emergency room visits. In accordance with its mission and philosophy, the medical center provides care regardless of the individual's ability to pay.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $228M to $266M (+17%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 1% · 2018 3% · 2019 2% · 2020 11% · 2021 1% · 2022 1% · 2023 2% · 2024 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
1% of MERCY MEDICAL CENTER’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (1% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $341k → $482k.
1 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 9% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $52M from 2 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Catholic Health System of Long Island). These are real filings, and they are not money MERCY MEDICAL CENTER raised.
From the IRS filings of MERCY MEDICAL CENTER’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 11 of 12 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
MERCY MEDICAL CENTER leans on a few funders — its largest provides 78% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
91% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MERCY MEDICAL CENTER.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 95% · 2018 100% · 2019 96% · 2020 80% · 2021 76% · 2022 83% · 2023 75% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
38% of MERCY MEDICAL CENTER's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 58% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
99% of MERCY MEDICAL CENTER's grant income comes from New York funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $275k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
