What Maine Center Ventures does
Mission
Support and promote the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center ("Maine Center") of the University of Maine System through fundraising, marketing, and engagement with Maine enterprises and employers to identify and address training needs, create experiential education opportunities for Maine Center students, and develop incubator and accelerator programs.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.
In its earliest years of operations, Maine Center Ventures ("MCV") received a significant grant that was utilized with fundraising dollars to support and promote the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center ("Maine Center") of the University of Maine Systems ("UMS") in accordance with MCV's mission. This support enabled the Maine Center to become established and to expand enrollment in its academic programs and to engage with Maine enterprises. Like fiscal years 2023 and 2024, in fiscal year 2025 MCV's operations were minimal as the UMS primarily supported its Maine Center through other means. MCV's CEO and Board of Directors continue to work together to determine how MCV can best support the Maine Center going forward.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $1.7M to $385k (−77%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
12% of MAINE CENTER VENTURES’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (65% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2019 → 2021: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income fell $3.0M → $52k.
1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 1% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of MAINE CENTER VENTURES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
MAINE CENTER VENTURES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 98% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 97% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of MAINE CENTER VENTURES's grant income comes from Maine funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $25k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
