01What it does

What Lucys Hope does

Mission

Our mission is to give a second chance at a new start to animals who are most vulnerable and in need of love and hope. The main goal is to rehabilitate the dogs and have them adopted in a loving forever home.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

Lucy's Hope closed its doors and stopped all operations during 2024

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Sanctuary & Rescue: Our Sanctuary and Rescue program provided welfare services to 86 dogs dogs total during 2024. There were 24 new dogs introduced to the Sanctuary and Rescue program during 2024 from a variety of sources (Owner/Guardian Surrender, Strays, Shelter Transfers, etc.). Our Sanctuary and Rescue program services include, but are not limited to: transporting dogs to our facility, determining potential medical conditions, creating and implementing a specialized medical plan for each dog, feeding and grooming, oversee interactions between dogs, upkeep kennels/dog pens, and provide sanctuary to all dogs.

  2. Training & Behavior Modification: Our Training and Behavior Modification program is much more than the name may suggest. With our organizations mission in mind, we strive to find new strategies to improve the relationship between dogs and their bond with humans. All dogs in our care during 2024 has, at some point, gone through our Behavior and temperament assessment. Working in partnership with our preferred experienced trainers, we can develop a specialized training and behavior modification plan for each dog, if needed. These training activities provide mental and physical stimulation to each dog in hopes to increase their likelihood of being adopted into a forever home.

  3. Of the 86 dogs that received welfare services through our organization 100% were either adopted or transitioned into foster care. As we wound down operations ahead of closing in 2024, we remained committed to ensuring the long-term safety and well-being of every dog in our care. All prospective adopters underwent a thorough screening process to confirm placement in safe, loving homes. Dogs who were not adopted were carefully placed with trusted foster caregivers, ensuring continuity of care and compassionate stewardship beyond our closure.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $9k → $12k.

4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Lucys Hope’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Lucys Hope leans on a few funders — its largest provides 59% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Lucys Hope.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2021 98% · 2022 34% · 2023 98% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of Lucys Hope's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $25 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Texas, across 1 state.

NY

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $50k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
