01What it does

What Los Angeles Drama Club Inc does

Mission

In the spirit of cultural generosity and with the goal of creative excellence, we create diverse communities of belonging and self-empowerment with children and youth locally and across the globe through the magic of theater, and we do it all in Iambic Pentameter. Los Angeles Drama Club has built an ongoing artistic community of children/youth who, through the creative process of "putting on a play" have found a passion, a purpose, and a safe place to express themselves and gain self-worth from their collective accomplishments. We use the diverse themes of Shakespeare, universal to the human condition, to shed light on the consequences of our choices. We are the only youth arts company in which children from across Los Angeles, and from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds, come together for the purpose of rehearsing and performing full Shakespeare productions.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Shakespeare Youth Festival LA - March 8 to March 30, 2025. We presented three productions - Troilus and Cressida, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and As You Like It. 37 children, ages 7 through 18 participated. Each play is the culmination of 14 to 18 weekly rehearsal sessions. In the Fall of 2025, we began in-person rehearsals for SYF 2026. 33 children made up the casts of three plays. Approx 65% of our students received financial aid allowing them to participate at no or very low cost.

  2. Summer with SYF - July 7 to August 2, 2025. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $10k → $31.

2 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 17% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LOS ANGELES DRAMA CLUB INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LOS ANGELES DRAMA CLUB INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

53% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LOS ANGELES DRAMA CLUB INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

14% of LOS ANGELES DRAMA CLUB INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 25% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
