What League of Women Voters of Louisvill does

Mission

The league of women voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. As a nonpartisan body, the league takes action on issues but does not support or oppose candidates or parties. The league supports diversity, equity and inclusion in membership and programming.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Voter services and high school voter services program - the committees engage in voter registration, voter education and civics education at naturalization ceremonies, community events, and high schools throughout the louisville community. Events were held at 15 high schools resulting in 367 registrations. We participated in over 30 community events, such as womens equality day, farmers markets and national voter appreciation day, providing voter registration and voting information. Covid limited our participation in naturalization ceremonies to 2, but they have increased significantly into later 2023. At these events we registered approximately 225 voters, resulting in approximately 600 total voters registered for the fiscal year.

  2. Citizens guide - the organization prints a pamphlet titled how to contact your elected officials. It is available to members of our league and the community. It provides contact information for all federal, state, and local elected officers. This is very helpful, accessible information for concerned voters allowing them to easily communicate with their government. We print a new guide after every election, as needed. This year we printed and distributed (free of charge) roughly 500 booklets.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income fell $5k → $5k.

2 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 51% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LOUISVILL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LOUISVILL leans on a few funders — its largest provides 49% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

51% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LOUISVILL.

effective funders

Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 99% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 99% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

51% of LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LOUISVILL's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $5k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Kentucky funders.

KY

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
