What Lamplight Avl does
Mission
We support artists by providing space, time, and resources for the creation of innovative art that they share with our community.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
The organization provides space, time, and resources to artists so they can create innovative work and share it with our community. These programs both lift up experimental, unusual, and innovative work that moves the cultural conversation foward.
$16,040 spent35% of program spendingIn response to hurricane helene's devastating impact on the asheville area arts community, Lamplight Avl launched the recover, remain, and thrive program to help artists to recover from the storm, remain in the area, and continue to create the work that inspires our community. Funds in the first two phases (recover and remain) were distributed directly to artists, ensuring that recovery was both immediate and foundational, and maintaining the asheville area's identity as an arts haven for residents and visitors alike. In november of 2024, Lamplight Avl released the "recover" grants: 1500 to each of 20 artists (chosen from applications) who had been severely impacted by the storm. In the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, Lamplight Avl raised over 115,000, which was distributed in large grants to 9 regional community arts hubs (also chosen from applications) in february 2025. Lamplight Avl is now working on the "thrive" phase of this program, which focuses on long-term, affordable studio and community arts spaces for artists.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 50% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of LAMPLIGHT AVL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 4 of 5 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
LAMPLIGHT AVL leans on a few funders — its largest provides 50% of grant income and the top three 90%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
50% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LAMPLIGHT AVL.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
LAMPLIGHT AVL draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside North Carolina, across 1 state in all.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $29k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
